Touhou 4: Lotus Land Story – Bad Apple!! (Analog Synthesizers)

Описание к видео Touhou 4: Lotus Land Story – Bad Apple!! (Analog Synthesizers)

The original Bad Apple!! from Touhou 4 – Lotus Land Story, performed on analog synthesizers, including a decent modular synthesizer.

Since I was too lazy to get a proper image for this upload, I decided to simply record a video of the modular synthesizer playing its part. This track is also a bit special: it's the first time I used multiple custom modules, including two custom MIDI controlled analog 4ch mixers and two custom MIDI controlled "supersaw synthesizers" with 8 VCOs each. Unfortunately the "supersaw synthesizer" modules have a small design flaw at the moment, which makes the software implemented EGs somewhat unusable, but that wasn't a big problem for this track. You can see the custom modules in the video in the lower row. Of course the MIDI to CV module in the upper row is also custom, but I used that one on previous tracks already. For completeness, the video only shows part of the Eurorack system. There are 4 more rows with System-55 series oscillators, filters, EGs, mixers, … and another row with a few System-100M series modules.

In addition to the modular synthesizer, I also used a few "classic" analog synthesizers in this track.

Developing custom Eurorack modules is definitely a lot of fun, and I don't know why other people don't do this, but using PCBs as front panels for Eurorack modules is perfect. You can use the silkscreen layer to put arbitrary text or even images onto these front panels, and you can even put SMD LEDs onto these front panels, essentially "for free", without any complicated mechanical through hole LED hacks like what everyone else seemingly does. And to make things even simpler, the module's main PCBs are mechanically mounted via the 3.5mm jacks to the front panel, similar to what some Doepfer modules do. The results are ridiculously cheap and fancy looking Eurorack modules (think of roughly 30€ for the MIDI controlled 4ch mixer module and roughly 40€ for the MIDI controlled supersaw module with 8 auto-tuned VCOs, OTA based mixer and a stereo Moog ladder filter; the PCB based front panels cost roughly 1€ per front panel + roughly 30ct per LED).
