ABOUT ATTRITION RATES:

When it comes to attrition and turnover, there's a lot of overlapping information. But they are different! Attrition rates focus on long term. When attrition is high, your company may be shrinking over time. When turnover rates are high, your company could still be growing!

Employee attrition rates and turnover rates are calculated in the same way but they are interpreted differently. If your organization is suffering from high employee attrition, there are some things you can do to get that percentage down and fixing the problem from the inside out: have structured retirement plans, value career changes, conduct exit interviews.

Here's the overview on how to calculate attrition rates:

Attrition rate = # of employees that left / (average number of employees) x 100.
Divide the number of people who left the company in a certain period of time by the average number of employees over that time. When you multiply that by 100, you’ll get your attrition rate percentage.
