"स रामो लक्ष्मणं प्रीतः समासाद्याभिवाद्य च।
प्रययौ निःश्र्वसं रामं दृष्ट्वा दशरथो महान्॥"
(Ram, after bidding farewell to Lakshman, began his exile; and the great Dasharatha, seeing him leave, could no longer breathe.)

Shri Raj Mahajan powerfully conveys the agony of a father torn between raj-dharma and paternal love, capturing the moment Dasharatha relives the curse of Shravan Kumar’s parents—an act from his youth that now returns to haunt him:

"पुत्र वियोगात् दुःखार्तः राजा दशरथो महान्।
रामं स्मृत्वा पुनः पुनः विललाप महायशाः॥"
(Afflicted by the sorrow of separation, Dasharatha, the great and renowned king, kept remembering Ram and wept again and again.)

Even Queen Kaushalya’s strength could not console him, as the grief of losing Ram consumed him entirely. Dasharatha eventually breathed his last with Ram’s name on his lips—a moment of tragic divinity beautifully presented by Shri Raj Mahajan:

*"रामं रामं सदा रामं वदन् राजा महायशाः।
प्रयाणकाले युक्तात्मा देहम् त्यक्त्वा दिवं गतः॥"
(Forever chanting “Ram, Ram, Ram,” the great king left his body at the time of death and ascended to the heavens.)

The sorrow spread across Ayodhya as the kingdom plunged into mourning. No son was present beside him. The silence of the palace was broken only by the cries of the queens and the people. Shri Raj Mahajan captures these moments with vivid emotional intensity.

This tale is not just a mythological episode—it’s a reflection of human truth. Dasharatha's life shows us that true love is rooted in sacrifice, and that even kings must bow to the laws of karma and dharma.

"A promise once made must be honored, even if it shatters the heart."
