The Man I Love

Описание к видео The Man I Love

"The Man I Love" was directed by Raoul Walsh and is considered a film noir classic. The film features Robert Alda as the "heavy" trying to 'make' jazz singer Ida Lupino. Fellow Italian Alda was one of Romano's many showbiz friends.

Ida Lupino is considered the quintessential star of the genre. She went on to fame in films such as "They Drive By Night" and "High Sierra" with Humphrey Bogart. She was a close friend and admirer of Romano's music and insisted he be given this song in the film. She also personally added the dialogue - Alda: It's the band that brings 'em in here. Lupino: I think it's the singer!

The scene features Romano singing and playing "If I Could Be With You" in a deliberately 'southern' jazz style with some of the top jazz players of the day: Frankie Zinzer (trumpet), Archie Rosate (clarinet), Stan Wrightsman (piano) and Nick Fatool (drums).
