Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma proposed creating a corridor through Bangladesh to reduce the distance between West Bengal and other Indian regions. Speaking to journalists in Shillong on Friday (March 7), he highlighted that a corridor connecting Hili and Mahendraganj would cut the distance between Meghalaya, Assam's Barak Valley, Tripura, and Kolkata by 600-700 kilometers. He described it as an alternative economic corridor but noted its implementation depends on Bangladesh's involvement. Sangma mentioned prior talks between Delhi and Dhaka and expressed his commitment to reviving discussions. The proposed 100-kilometer corridor would link Mahendraganj in Meghalaya to Hili in West Bengal, enhancing connectivity and economic ties.
