Hi everyone, today I have made MEEN THALA CURRY/ Kallu Shappu Meen Curry.Hope everyone enjoys this മീൻ തല കറി.


MEEN THALA CURRY/ Kallu Shappu Meen Curry

Meen Thala Curry is a famous and traditional recipe from Kerala, India. It is bit spicy and looks colourful but the taste is really awesome. It’s also called as Shappile Meen Curry.

Ingredients:

Fish Head - 1 kg. ( Cut into medium size pieces )
Coconut oil 2 tbsp
Mustard seeds ½ tsp,
Fenugreek seeds ½ tsp
Garlic, Ginger crushed
Onion 1 finely sliced (preferable small onion- shallot)
Greenchilly 3
Coriander powder 2 tsp,
Chilli powder 3 tsp
Turmeric powder ½ tsp
Fenugreek powder ¼ tsp
Pepper powder 1tsp
Tomato 1 cut into small pieces
Fish tamarind as required
Coconut 2 tbsp
Water as required
Curry leaves
Salt as required

How to make Meen Thala Curry – Fish Head Curry :

1. Wash the fish head well and keep aside.
2. Heat Oil in a pot, splutter mustard seeds ½ tsp, fenugreek seeds ½ tsp and add crushed garlic and ginger sauté till slightly turns brown then add green chilli and onion, mix well add ½ tsp salt, sauté well till semi brown colour. Then add coriander powder 2 tsp,3tsp chilli powder, ½ tsp turmeric powder sauté well add ¼ fenugreek powder,1tsp pepper powder mix well until get golden brown, then add tomato ,add fish tamarind add grinded coconut paste, mix well on medium to high flame. Add water as required then add fish head into the gravy when it starts to boil. Add curry leaves And add salt as required then cover with lid and cook for15 -20 minutes on medium flame after that turn the fish head the other side and cook again for 5 minutes on low flame. Cook till the gravy starts to get thick. When the gravy turns thick, turn off flame. Serve hot or cool with Kappa, Kerala porata, Puttu Or boiled rice.
