Comparing 3 home recording setups for guitar - H4n, Focusrite 4i4/Rode NT5s, Discrete 4/KM184s

Описание к видео Comparing 3 home recording setups for guitar - H4n, Focusrite 4i4/Rode NT5s, Discrete 4/KM184s

I wanted to re-record this tune and figured I could take the opportunity to explore my evolution of recording setups. I've put a quick sample of each at the start, then three 45 second clips after that.

Timestamps:

00:20 - Cheapest (Zoom H4n)
01:05 - Medium (Focusrite/Rode)
01:50 - Expensive (Discrete/Neumann)

My first recordings were done into a Zoom H4n which I picked up used for about 100 quid (GBP).

I moved to a Focusrite Scarlett 4i4 interface and a pair of Rode NT5 mics. Total cost ~ 400 GBP new. Note that for this recording I only used the 2 mic preamp inputs of the 4i4, so I could have used Scarlett 2i2 and saved some money.

My current upgraded chain is between 1.5k and 2k GBP - a pair of neumann km184s into an old Antelope Discrete 4 interface.

I 'mastered' the audio files in Reaper. No effects/processing apart from a little gain to try to get them equal.
