The SIG Spear (large frame MCX) was born from the U.S. Army's NGSW (Next Generation Squad Weapon) program to replace the M4A1 carbine. In military form, the XM7 (now M7) was selected with the 6.8x51mm cartridge for armor defeating capabilities, and was paired with the XM157 optic.

While many of us now know about the marketed capabilities of the XM7/M7 and the 6.8x51mm cartridge, we wonder if the civilian spec SIG Spear in 7.62x51mm would actually be closer to the final version... or at least a variant as the U.S. military clarifies it's munitions doctrine....
