YOUTUBE: Milwaukee, WI — Recently, the heart of Milwaukee beat grew stronger through the power of poetry, as The People's Poetry Project [Bronzeville Edition] took center stage. This initiative was led by Milwaukee Poet Laureate Shelly Conley, in conjunction with the Milwaukee Public Library, which has selected a total of thirteen Poet Laureates over the last 25 years. The goal is to bring poetry into public spaces, encouraging passersby to pause, reflect, and even contribute their own voices.

Set against the vibrant backdrop of Milwaukee's historic Bronzeville district, The People's Poetry Campaign explores themes of identity, culture, Love, and social justice, showcasing 14 of Milwaukee's poets. Participating businesses displayed poems in their windows along with a QR code leading to a digital space where all, excluding published poets, were free to express themselves. The goal is for them to find inspiration to write a poem, inspired by what they read.

Shelly spoke with one of the 14 contributors, TINA 'MS. JAZZI' NIXON, founder of My Sista's KeepHer, about her involvement in the project.
