Bhaktapur Durbar Square is a treasure trove of history and culture. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Nepal, it boasts stunning architecture, ancient temples, and the vibrant traditions of Newari culture. 🌟

Our journey kicks off the new season, "WordPress & Heritage," with an unforgettable celebration. We explored this historic square, delving into its rich past as the royal palace of the Malla dynasty kings from the 14th to 18th centuries. Managed by the Archaeological Department of Nepal and Bhaktapur Municipality, this site is a cultural gem featuring intricate wood carvings and red brick buildings, blending Hindu and Buddhist styles.

Highlights of our visit include:
The 55 Window Palace with its beautifully engraved windows
The sacred Taleju Temple and its Golden Gate
The bustling Bhairavnath Temple
The towering Nyatapola Temple
The unique Peacock Window

Bhaktapur Durbar Square is not just about its buildings. It's a hub of cultural festivities like the Bisket Jatra festival and the Gai Jatra festival, offering a feast of traditional Newari cuisine.

Despite the challenges of the 2015 Nepal earthquake, significant restoration efforts have preserved these historic structures. Visitors are encouraged to follow guidelines to help protect this invaluable heritage site.

Reflecting on our celebration, we marked WordPress's 21st anniversary in a meaningful way, discovering the rich heritage of Bhaktapur, launching our new season, and connecting with a vibrant community of WordPress lovers. This event is just the start of our exciting journey to explore and celebrate heritage sites around the world.
