On Friday, the Ayuntamiento of La Línea canceled a planned tribute after a political uproar. PSOE and Podemos accused the local government of whitewashing fascism.

The tribute was meant to honor three divers who died in the Bay of Gibraltar during World War II, but they were part of a fascist unit that used "human torpedoes" to sabotage Allied ships.

Former Gibraltar Government Minister, Jaime Netto warned that far-right views remain a threat to freedom, democracy, and European values.
