Etran de L'Aïr is a family band and has been around since 1995.
The members of Etran de L'Aïr have always been innovative. They were one of the first in the area to work with electric guitars.
For over 20 years this Etran de L'Aïr has been playing in the 'guitar city' Agadez at weddings, baptisms and political events. It is the best known and longest playing group, but at the same time little known in the west
In addition to the well-known desert blues, Etran de L'Aïr also incorporates Mande music in their compositions. They say themselves: “we play our own folklore. Our music is based around traditional takamba.”

This session was recorded at the Le Guess Who? festival in Utrecht in the serie Hidden Musics. International musical performances that are not usually experienced on stages or at festivals; these rich, often centuries-old musical traditions are typically ‘hidden’ in remote places throughout the world like Etran de L’Aïr.
