Описание к видео Excel - Calculate the Difference Between Two Dates in Excel using DATEDIF Function - Episode 357

Microsoft Excel Tutorial - Calculate the Difference Between Two Dates in Excel using DATEDIF Function.

Welcome back to another episode of the MrExcel podcast! In this video, we'll be discussing how to calculate the difference between two dates in Excel. This is a common question that many viewers have asked, and I'm excited to share with you a simple solution using the DATEDIF function.

First, we have our dates in column A and today's date in column B. While you can use the =TODAY function in column B, we'll be using the DATEDIF function to calculate the difference in years and months. This function has been around since the Lotus 1-2-3 days and is still available in Excel today.

To use the DATEDIF function, simply specify the earlier date, the later date, and the unit you want to calculate. For example, if we want to see the number of years between the two dates, we would use the code "Y". This will tell us that 34 years have elapsed between the two dates. Similarly, we can use "M" for months and "D" for days.

However, in this case, we want to ignore the 34 years and only focus on the number of months. To do this, we use the code "YM" in the DATEDIF function. This will give us the number of months between the two dates, ignoring the years. We can also use "MD" for days ignoring months, or "YD" for days ignoring years.

But what if we want to show the difference in years and months as a fraction? Well, we can do that too! In column E, I've used a formula that takes the number of years and months and divides it by 12. Then, by formatting the cells as a fraction with a denominator of 12, we can get a nice number like 36 and 11/12, which represents 36 years and 11 months.

So there you have it, a simple and efficient way to calculate the difference between two dates in Excel using the DATEDIF function.
