As usual, the Frittenden Club start their season off with the traditional Battle of Britain Grasstrack, and after plenty of overnight rain, the track is in superb condition. With no local RH Sidecar hero Terry Saunters & Liam Brown in the entry, the path looks clear for another win for Mark Cossar/Carl Blyth, and although at times they make their victories look easy, Mark assures me that it's never as easy as it may look. As he says, "With the class of the competition, you only have to make one small mistake, and they will take advantage". Paul Whitelam/Richard Webb will certainly give them all the trouble they need, along with Will Offen/Ricky Pay, who are really getting their act together now. Matt Fumarola/Andi Wilson surely must win a big one this season at some point, as they are absolutely flying. Dale & Jordan Fish will also be in the thick of the action. One of the highlights of the meeting was a fantastic race between the long travelled man from Guernsey, Clint Blondel with passenger Conor Measor, and Whitelam & Webb. Racing right out of the top draw.
Chad Wirtzfeld really showed he was a class apart from the rest of the 500cc Solo's, by absolutely blowing them away. Best racing in the Solo divisions came from the 250cc class, with so many riders in contention, and all trying to hang on the the shirt tails of former British Champion David Knowles, who is still a force to be reckoned with.
Another class to put on some terrific racing all day, was the popular Left Hand Sidecars, with Rob Heath/Kyle Fish, Martin Cuff/Adrian, Danny Hill/Callum Ray, Josh Penfold/Dan Woodbridge, and Will Penfold/Freddie Wood, all in the mix, and after some super racing through the heats, one crew took the final by the horns.
With Upright Solo's, and a small but select 350cc Solo class, this turned out to be another great showing of how Grasstrack should be run by the Frittenden Club.
