Back in January of this year I managed an impromptu trip to Iguazu Falls. I was already in Rio de Janeiro and met a girl named Lera who became my spontaneous travel companion. Truly an incredible place, this UNESCO World Heritage site was on my bucket list for a long time.

Consisting of a network of over 260 waterfalls that span the borders of three different countries (Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay), it is the largest waterfall network in the world. In a 24 hour turn, we managed 4 stamps in our passports - 2 leaving and entering Brazil, and 2 entering and leaving Argentina. Not to mention the wealth of natural beauty found in the huge national parks that span the region.

We walked the Devil’s Path on the Brazilian side, and then did the Circuito Alto on the Argentinian. Truthfully, I can’t say which is nicer. It’s just different vantage points. In Brazil you stand basically at the foot of the falls, watching the water gush at you from all sides. In Argentina, you stand above the falls, giving you a birds eye view of how the action starts. Both are breathtaking in their own right.

Unfortunately we didn’t have time to make it to Paraguay, though I would have liked the extra notch on my map count.
