In Nepal’s Rangun watershed, the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) is applying the Water Energy Food Ecosystem (WEFE) Nexus to put people and nature at the heart of local water management.

Nepal’s natural resources are under mounting pressure from climate change and population growth. Local governments increasingly face the challenge of doing more with fewer resources. Old, siloed approaches no longer meet the demands of a changing world.

The WEFE Nexus offers a future-forward paradigm, integrating all these lifelines to create local governance systems that are more efficient, inclusive and resilient. In partnership with Oxfam, IWMI introduced the WEFE Nexus under the Transboundary Rivers Of South Asia (TROSA) program, whereby local governments in Nepal can plan smarter, collaborate better, and ensure no one is left behind.

Through workshops and sustained engagement with local governments, IWMI is helping translate awareness into real policy shifts and on-the-ground action.
