The Democratic Party is building a game plan to fight the Trump administration, but also confronted internal divisions Tuesday over the war in the Middle East. Hundreds of Democrats from across the country are gathering in Minneapolis this week for the Democratic National Committee's summer meeting, as the party draws up plans to counter the Trump administration and the Republican-controlled Congress in next year's midterms.

The three-day meeting marks a homecoming for new DNC Chair Ken Martin, the former head of the Minnesota DFL, who took the reins of the national party just weeks after Democrats suffered major losses at the ballot box in 2024.

"Let's fight! Let's win!" Martin said during Monday's opening remarks. "Let's remake the world daily, Democrats. Thank you!"

After boisterous speeches on Monday from Martin, Gov. Tim Walz, Attorney General Keith Ellison, U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar and State Sen. John Hoffman, party members dispersed into small groups and then convened again Tuesday morning to consider a range of DNC resolutions. Two resolutions in particular, related to the war in the Middle East, exposed a rift within the Democratic Party and served as an example of the tight rope that Martin must walk as the head of the DNC.
