Welcome Back!
In today's episode we ventured off into the marsh in hopes of finding some good spots. We made our way to the huge concrete sound mirrors used as a warning system to detect enemy aircraft heading towards the coast. These were soon made redundant by radar technology and have been left here ever since. They are definitely a sight to behold and even though it took us hours to find it was definitely worth it!
We the continued through the marsh stopping at a couple of locations on the way until we made our final stop at St. Thomas à Becket's Church.
This church was built in the 13th century and has stood, isolated in the fields ever since. Legend has it, the Archbishop had travelled across the marsh and had fallen into a deep ditch filled with water. He prayed to St Thomas while fighting for air and pushing himself up from the bottom, on the second time he prayed for someone to save him from his death. Just in time a farmer scooped him out of the water to save him, and in gratitude the Archbishop had this church built and dedicated it to St Thomas à Becket.
