The first of Group D, and a bit of a toughie! I wasn't familiar with this anthem before I began this project, but it has definitely made a lasting impression on me. I kind of regret not doing the full anthem and choosing the shorter version which is played at sporting events such as the World Cup. Orientales, la Patria o la Tumba (the official title, taken from the first line of text) has definitely helped pique my interest in the anthems of South America.

I used the sheet music found here: http://javanese.imslp.info/files/imgl... which helped me out greatly. Since I found the consensus of key to be C major, I took the time to transpose the music down a 3rd in Sibelius.

The National Anthem of Uruguay, when presented in its full length, is the longest anthem in the world, with a duration of approximately 6 minutes. The music was composed by Francisco José Debali, who was born in Hungary and moved to Uruguay at the age of 47. The anthem was composed by Debali in 1845, and it was declared the official anthem of Uruguay in 1848. The Italian opera influence is especially notable here because the theme of the anthem is supposedly taken from the Prologue of Donizetti's opera Lucrezia Borgia.
