Sale of the Century NZ - Partial episode (26 April 1989)

Steve Parr and Judith Kirk (now Jude Dobson) hosted Sale of the Century, a classic quiz in which contestants with a good general knowledge and a fast finger on the button could win prizes with a total value of $70,000 or more.

Recorded in front of a live audience at Wellington's Avalon Television Studios, Sale of the Century was produced by Grundy Television (now Fremantle) for TVNZ and ran from April 1989 until June 1993. A short-lived revival was recorded in Auckland at the studios of Isambard Productions, a now-defunct independent production house led by Tom Parkinson, and ran on TV3 (now Three) from September 1994 until April 1995.

In the partial Sale of the Century episode - first screened on Network Two (now TVNZ 2) at 7pm on the evening of Wednesday 26 April 1989 - returning contestant Cliff won $11,187 in cash and prizes and, of course, 'the lot' (a set of luxury prizes, i.e. absolutely everything, with a total value of $71,824) which included:

- a Toshiba stereo system (plus a $200 music voucher), valued at $2,195;
- an 8-day holiday for two to Fiji (plus $1,000 spending money), valued at $4,300;
- a Youngman Richardson ride-on mower, valued at $7,000;
- an Italian-style leather lounge suite, valued at $10,000;
- a Yamaha grand piano, valued at $16,000; and
- a Mitsubishi Magna GLX, valued at $30,329.

Cliff left the show undefeated and took away the prizes valued at $83,011.
