Here is a short video about making perfume. I attended a perfume workshop hosted by the Australian perfume brand Metascent, and Yen, the perfumer and co-founder of Metascent guided me to make the perfume that fit exactly what I wanted. At this workshop we began by drawing a picture of a place we wanted our fragrance to remind us of. My picture is of summer in Texas. Anyone who has been to Texas, from the panhandle to the hill country, knows the smell is of cedar. So my base was two different kinds of cedar, with a musk, and an oak moss. To balance the base I used grapefruit as the top note with an airy muguet (Lily of the valley) as my middle note. Finally, I had to get the proportions correct, but once I did I was able to blend it all together to have one unforgettable smell, a smell I enjoy wearing.
