It was August 28th, 2021 and I attempted the Greina tour for the first time. Unfortunately the bad organization left me surprised: too cold! There were even a few snowflakes falling. Having reached the Scaletta hut from Pian Geirett I paid a quick visit to the stone arch and returned.
Given today's beautiful day, with full sun and mild weather, I said to myself: either I do it now or I'm sure it will remain pending for a lifetime.
The hike started in Pian Geirett, after taking the bus from Ghirone. The starting point can only be reached that way: no private cars allowed unless you have a special permit. From capanna Scaletta, you move towards Greina's plain and you cross the stone arch sign. The plain is quite long but very relaxing. After arriving at the Motterascio hut you can take a breath before starting the descent towards Luzzone's lake and dam. It's quite steep and a couple of hours more are needed.
The bus will then take you back to Ghirone.
Positive ascent: 707 meters
Descent: 1098 meters
Duration: 5:49 h without breaks.
