How Does the OMNY Card Work?

The OMNY card is a physical, reloadable fare payment option for the MTA's OMNY system, gradually replacing the MetroCard. To use it, simply tap the card on an OMNY reader at any subway turnstile or bus farebox, and the system instantly deducts the fare. You purchase an OMNY card at participating retail locations or vending machines, then load funds onto it.
