Описание к видео How to Run a Low-Combat Duet D&D Campaign

In this video, Beth covers three ideas for running a low- (or no-) combat D&D campaign for one-on-one play.

The first thing we want to consider is why your player doesn't like combat: Is it a question of pacing? A preferences for peace instead of violence? Do they like the creative challenge of solving the issues they run across in other ways?

All of these are perfectly valid preferences, and the joy and challenge of duet D&D is that we get to adjust and adapt the rules and story as needed so both people at the table have fun!

Once you understand why your player doesn't like combat (or prefers to keep it to a minimum), there are a few adjustments you can try.

A middle-ground solution is to incorporate theater of the mind combat instead of using a full setup for combats. But if they don't like combat at all, you'll want to make adjustments to the type of campaign you're running and/or to the PC's class, subclass, and stats.

You can run and investigation-heavy or RP-combat-heavy (intrigue-heavy perhaps) campaign. (I don't say this in the video, but I'm excited to try out the adaptation of Blue Rose for 5e as it's more about political intrigue than it is martial prowess or fighting monsters.) You might also try out a subclass that allows the player to minimize violence, either through spectral helper companions, hyper-awareness of their environment, or powerful skills of persuasion.

I hope this has helped and has given you some interesting things to think about!

If you have other ideas for running low-combat duet campaigns or have a follow-up question about this or another one-on-one D&D topic, let me know in the comments below, and please like and subscribe to our channel!

Happy adventuring!
