Numbers recently released from Statistics Canada paint a picture of a country that seems to be speaking less French every year. The number of people speaking French at home dropped in every region except the Yukon. Outside of Quebec, less than 10 per cent of Canadians can now say they speak both official languages. Following the 50th anniversary of the Official Languages Act, we discuss if the dream of national bilingualism has failed, and whether it was worth striving for in the first place.
