🔥 Since 1939, Gelb has been fueling the dreams of musicians, starting out as part of the Haight-Ashbury Music Center in San Francisco before making Redwood City its permanent home. For over 85 years, Gelb has been more than just a shop—it’s been a community hub where generations of players found their first instruments, upgraded their rigs, and chased the sound that defined their journey.

Inside Gelb, it’s absolute gear heaven: guitars, amps, drums, keyboards, pro audio, lessons, rentals—you name it. Whether you’re just picking up your very first six-string or you’re a road-worn pro hunting down that perfect tone, Gelb Music has your back. And the best part? The staff are real musicians who live and breathe this stuff—they don’t just sell it, they play it.

💡 A little history for you: Gelb was founded by Sidney Gelb, who—fun fact—moved to California thanks to a nudge from his buddy Walt Disney. While Walt took over Hollywood, Sidney made his mark by creating one of America’s most iconic music stores. In 1972, one of Sidney’s own guitar instructors, Kevin Jarvis, took the reins—swapping accordions for electric guitars, expanding lessons and rentals, and eventually making Gelb a global destination for players both in-store and online.

Today, Gelb is still thriving as the longest-running, family-owned independent music store in the Bay Area—and stepping inside feels like walking into living history.
