Kuok is the daughter of Malaysian billionaire Robert Kuok Hock-nien and the sixth of his eight children. At 47 years old, she has been serving as the executive director of Shangri-La Asia since June 2016 and became chairman in January 2017. She joined the Board of Directors in 2014 and was appointed Deputy Chairman in 2016. Additionally, she holds directorships at China World Trade Center Company Limited, Kerry Group Limited, and Kerry Holdings Limited.

Kuok earned a Bachelor's degree in East Asian Studies from Harvard University. She previously held the position of managing director and chief executive of SCMP Group and was a director at Bangkok Post. Her current employment contract includes a monthly base salary of USD 73,000, along with a discretionary bonus and pension.

Robert Kuok, her father, is the wealthiest individual in Malaysia, with a net worth of USD 12.4 billion as of July 2023, according to Forbes. He founded the Kuok Group, which has diverse interests in hotels, real estate, and commodities, and established the Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts chain in Singapore in 1971. His business career began in 1949 with trading rice, sugar, and wheat flour.

In 2024, Shangri-La Asia reported a revenue of USD 2.19 billion, reflecting a 2 percent increase from the previous year, although its net profit decreased by 12.3 percent to USD 161.4 million. The company is publicly listed on both the Hong Kong and Singapore exchanges. Following Kuok's appointment as CEO, Shangri-La Asia expressed that combining the roles of chairman and CEO is expected to enhance the company's strategic cohesion and operational execution, ensuring a unified vision across all leadership levels.
