MANILA, PHILIPPINES - The House Committee on Justice convened on Monday, March 2, 2026, to begin deliberations on the multiple impeachment complaints filed against Vice President Sara Duterte.

In a dramatic start to the proceedings, the committee, led by Chairperson Jville Luistro, voted to set aside the first impeachment complaint endorsed by Makabayan bloc lawmakers, citing a violation of the "one-year bar rule" as interpreted from a Supreme Court decision. This came after a heated debate among committee members on the timeliness of the filing.

Earlier in the hearing, the second impeachment complaint was formally withdrawn by its complainants and endorsers, Representatives Percival Sendanya and Layla De Lima, a move that the committee accepted.

Following these developments, the House panel found the remaining two complaints—the Sabalia et al. and the Cabrera complaints—to be sufficient in form, allowing the impeachment process to move to the next stage of determining sufficiency in substance for these specific complaints. The complaints accuse the Vice President of betrayal of public trust, culpable violation of the Constitution, and graft and corruption, primarily linked to the alleged misuse of confidential funds.
