Jerusha Sturgis, wife of Colonel Sam Sturgis, goes to the Little Bighorn Battlefield to see where her "dear boy," 2nd Lieutenant Jack Sturgis, lost his life with Custer's column on June 25, 1876.

Jerusha finds herself on a grisly field, still littered with the bones of the dead. She visits with General Nelson Miles and his wife, speaks with Native American's who were at the fight, and comes to her own conclusions about that fateful day that claimed so many lives.
