With tax season right around the corner, many are asking "Where's the money". As challenging as filing taxes can be, some organizations are trying to help. Volunteers with the nonprofit Common Heart in Indian Trail are gearing up to help ease the stress for people this tax season.

“It's doing a service that's badly needed," said Bruce Gorrell, who has been volunteering with Common Heart for years.

There are a lot of layers when filing that can make the process overwhelming. Factors like the Earned Income Tax Credit can help people with lower incomes, but many aren’t aware of it. That’s why Common Heart wants to help people realize there’s money they can get back.

“With the Earned Income Tax Credit and a refundable tax credit, that means that you'll get a lot more of that back," Gorrell noted.
