Pain in the wrist can be really frightenig but often self-inflicted. Finkelstein's test can be useful here. Activities such as texting or sports can injure the tendons and muscles controlling the fingers. For example the tendons of the fingers, ligaments of the wrist but also the nerves of the wrist can be damaged. Muscles such as the abductor pollicis longus and the extensor pollicis brevis have their tendons thickened and injured in a condition called De Quervain syndrome. Furthermore the median nerve can be damaged in a condition called carpal tunnel syndrome. The median nerve passes through the carpal tunnel and a possible compresison in that region can cause tingeling (parasthesia) or even pain in the hand. A skilled doctor or an orthopedic surgeon, should be able to diagnose these conditions and provide a proper therapy plan.
