England romp to a 9 wicket victory in the opening test of 1997 Ashes. Australia were tottering at 54/8 by the three man Poms pace attack. Shane Warne did made sure that Australia cross the three figure mark with counter attacking 47 with a strike run of around 100. Nasir Hussain double ton and Graham Thorpe working 138 made sure Aussies are out batted in the test. Australia did reply strongly in their second gig featuring centuries from Mark Taylor who led the way with 129 followed by Blewett 125 and Matthew Elliott. Lower order batting from Ian Healy and Shane Warne made sure that England bat for the second time in the test. A Target of 118 might look tricky but Atherton and Alec Stewart made sure that there were no butterflies.
