Today on Ancient DOS Games, Gemini's taking a look at Rise of the Dragon, the first inventory-based adventure game to come out of Dynamix, mostly known for action and sim games, published through Sierra On-Line in 1990.

This is quite the atypical adventure game seeing as the primary focus of the game's development was to maximize the immersion. This means some aspects of the game play notably different than most similar titles made by other developers up to this point and the overarching design and engine would be used in more such games to come out of Dynamix in the future. But, does this mean the game is any good?

I found out mid-editing that there are two modern titles by the name of "Rise of the Dragon". One is a game, the other a piece of DLC for a different game. Since I didn't discover these until late I was able to include a tag about this in the Game Stats but didn't comment on it vocally. :P

There IS a year mentioned in the game during a particular conversation, but it's too out of context to peg where it relates to the year in the game. There's a TON of additional material in the hintbook so it's possible the year the game takes place in is mentioned somewhere in there.

One neat little "bug" I ran across is that if you try to start the first arcade sequence without a gun, you simply get shot dead, but if you don't take any guns into the second arcade sequence, it flat up gives you your handgun, possibly to save time on developing even more alternate endings. :B
