At least 33 people have died over the last two days in southern India due to heavy monsoon rain and floods, according to authorities.

Several houses have collapsed and been swept away and floods have filled roads and railways across the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states.

According to Telangana State's top elected official, A. Revanth Reddy, over 4,000 people have been relocated to 110 government-run relief camps since Monday.

Overflowing lakes and streams have disrupted the Mahabubnagar and Nalgonda districts.

The city of Vijayawada has had the worst flooding in two decades with the Budameru River flooding 40% of the city and leaving almost 275,000 people stranded in over a dozen residential areas.

At least 170 people have died across six northeastern states in India since June, due to floods and mudslides caused by the continuous, intense monsoon rain.

The weather service has issued a red alert for 11 districts, predicting more rain in the region.
