Crop scouting is an essential routine for every diligent farmer. It helps one detect pests and diseases on time, enabling the farmer make informed decisions.

Personally, I scout for pest & diseases, nutrient deficiencies, weeds, irrigation, stage of plants and the general well being of the plants. I scout 3 - 4 times in a week.

Also, to get the best out of scouting, one has to be able to identify the pests and diseases peculiar to the plant being grown, signs and symptoms of various diseases and physiological disorders. These will help with proper diagnosis and plant management.
