Inside a rocky, uneven but green area surrounding the villages Makrychori, Elafochori, Disvato & Stegno there is still a humble workshop of prayer, true oasis in today’s era.

This is the Holy Women Convent of the Transfiguration of Sotiros of Nikiton. It is an outpost of the Metropolis of Philippi, that the spiritual radiation dominates the entire eastern region.

Located right next to the now almost deserted village Nikites from whom it was known as a popular name Monastery of Nikiton.

From the axis of the highway Kavala - Xanthi and the crossroads created at the height of the intersection with the road Chrisoupolis is just 11km.

The whole area around the monastery is mountainous and barren, now almost completely abandoned from residents of which went to Kavala and Chrysoupolis in the first half of the 1960s. So, here the foundation of the monastery in recent decades has really been a driving impetus in the whole space and a hope of revitalizing derelict area.

It was dedicated to the Transfiguration of Christ from the miraculous image that found here so adventurous.

The history of the monastery and the first form of this is just beginning in 1969. Then founded his first pilgrimage, known as the two women's retreat monastery with which resolved and acute problem posed to local residents from claiming the miraculous image of our Christ.
