MIDDLE EAST - BOOMING Oil & Gas Activities

In this video, we'll be covering the latest oil and gas news from the Middle East. New discoveries, new fields, production ramping up and more rigs. We're bringing you news from Turkey, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait-Saudi Arabia Neutral Zone, Iraq & Abu Dhabi.

Over the last 3 years Turkey has had 3 significant discoveries in the Black Sea (Sakarya, Amasra, and most recently Çaycuma). Production from Sakarya was due to commence Q1 2023 but has been delayed by the February 2023 earthquake disruption.

In Oman, the Shell-operated Mabrouk North East field starts gas production. Also in Oman, drilling news from Block 50 (Masirah Oil).

Saudi Arabia intends to increase production substantially over the coming years, targeting growth in the Safaniyah, Zuluf, Marjan, Berri & Dammam fields. Increased gas processing capacity is also planned for Haradh, Hawiyah & Tanajib.

There is also planned production increases within the Kuwait-Saudi Arabia Neutral Zone including at the Offshore Khafji field (operated by Saudi Aramco & KGOC) and the Onshore Wafra oilfield (operated by Chevron). However, there are still disputes with Iran over the Dorra (Durra)/Arash field.

ADNOC plans to have 142 rigs by end-2024. This is a substantial increase from the 99 rigs announced in 2022:    • Abu Dhabi oil production to rise by 1...  

At the start of April 2023, it was announced in Iraq that the $10 billion GGIP (Gas Growth Integrated Project (TotalEnergies, Basrah Oil Company & Qatar Energy)) will go ahead. This will see the capture of flared gas from 3 fields & use for power generation. In addition a seawater treatment plant for IOR will be built (Common Seawater Supply Project (CSSP)) - ExxonMobil pulled out in 2021. A solar power plant (1GW) has also been announced.

With the huge investment in oil & gas in the region, this highlights the difference in policy when compared to European countries with a greater focus on energy transition than energy security.
