Roof raise, safety hatch and raptor liner paint: The Outside Upgrade - One year progress update on our ambulance conversion.

A year ago, we bought a 4x4 Ford F450 super duty decommissioned ambulance. We the identified 5 areas needed upgrades: the cab, the outside, the engine, off-road capabilities and the inside. We have done 4 out of these 5 upgrades. Here we share the outside upgrade of our Ambulander.

Raising the roof by 12 inches: this was a major subproject! It took 5 weeks to complete, not including weeks of research and planning. The roof was cut off, and a metal frame was inserted, welded, then covered with metal sheets.

Removing the back doors and installing a safety hatch: since the doors needed fixing and we didn't need them, we opted to reframe the back and install a safety hatch (and window for summer days). We also replace all back lights with brighter LED lights.

Painting: we chose raptor liner instead of car paint hoping we will see less damages and scratches in the long run. Time will tell! We were pressed with time when painting as rain and cold had just started in the Fall. Painting mostly under a tarp except for the roof was not fun at all!

Side windows: Arctic Tern windows were added in the seating area for some natural lights and extra ventilation.
