Korean retail giant Lotte Group is one step closer to opening the nation's tallest,... and the world's fifth-tallest building,... having won final approval from the Seoul city government.
After six years of construction and months awaiting the green light, Lotte World Tower is set to open in April.

The tallest building in Korea is set to open for business in April.
Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on Thursday... that it has approved the opening of Lotte World Tower in southern Seoul.
It'll be the world's fifth tallest building... at 555 meters... and 123 stories.

Lotte finished construction on the skyscraper last October,... approximately six years after it began,... and submitted its request for approval in December.
The city of Seoul put the building through a series of tests including on-site inspections and anti-disaster drills... and checked with government agencies as to whether the skyscraper satisfies construction regulations and legal conditions.
The authorities concluded that the building meets all criteria... from fire safety and transportation to environmental regulations and electricity usage.
It's not only structually sound, but is also fitted with all the required logistical facilities,... including manuals for evacuating safely in case of a disaster.

When Lotte World Tower opens in early April, the city expects it will attract tourists from Korea and overseas who want to see the world's fifth-tallest building... and that it will create jobs.
