Adam goes hiking at The Channels in Rosedale, Va. This area is nearby Abingdon, Va and Lebanon, Va as well. The fire tower located at the top of the mountain is called the Mendota Fire Tower. The trail begins at the Brumley Gap parking lot, climbs a mountain gradually from the Brumley Gap Trail to the Channels trail, levels out on the top of the mountain with an overlook and the Mendota Fire Tower, followed by a slight downhill into the actual Channels labyrinth. Approximate round trip distance is 6-8 miles.
We noticed many families with small children ascending the mountain on our decent that inquired about the trail's difficulty. I would not recommend children under 10 who are not used to hiking be taken on the trail.

Many mushrooms were found on this trip including milkcap species, ochre jelly club, chanterelle sp., jack-o-lanterns, destroying angels, false coral fungus, bolete sp., and russula sp.

Flora observed included rhododendron, striped wintergreen, teaberry species, bracken ferns, pale jewelweed, Canadian wood nettle, beebalm, indian pipe, and downy rattlesnake plantain.
