Double, triple, and quadruple markers - are these blood tests really important in pregnancy?

These blood tests will help to estimate the risk of a baby having chromosomal defects in the womb.
As the name indicates, the double marker test checks two hormones PAPP-A and free beta HCG, in the mother's blood. Likewise, a triple marker test checks three hormones and quadruple checks 4 hormones.
A double marker test is done between 10 and 14 weeks, along with an NT scan.
A triple marker test is done between 14 and 16 weeks of pregnancy.
A quadruple marker test is done between 14w-22w, along with an anomaly scan.
Note that triple and quadruple marker tests are usually suggested when you have missed a double marker test or NT scan or when your double marker test shows a high-risk value.
The test results are categorized as high, intermediate, and low risk. If the results fall under high risk or intermediate risk, there is a high probability that the baby has chromosomal abnormalities.
The test report should be discussed with your doctor to better understand the risk estimation and whether or not to undergo further tests to confirm the disease since these tests predict the risk of common chromosomal abnormalities but do not confirm the condition.
Many expecting mothers are unaware that these are blood tests. Even though these are optional tests, they are important, so Doctors suggest them to pregnant women to ensure a healthy baby's birth.
