A small weekend pause.
I recently found a mint-condition Japanese fishing rod without a reel—often called a Tenkara-style rod. Minimal gear: rod, line, weight, hook, and patience.

I brought it to a quiet, hidden fishing place in Kawit, known as Mang Edwin’s Fishing Spot. The entrance fee is only ₱50, and Mang Edwin warmly welcomed me in. No rush, no noise—just water, trees, and time slowing down.

I wasn’t able to bring Liwanag with me on this trip. Instead, Mang Edwin’s dogs stayed nearby while I fished—quietly watching, occasionally moving closer. Before heading home, I shared some bread with them.

One quiet lesson stood out: learning how to properly throw the line with the weight and hook. Each cast ended with a soft ripple as it touched the water’s surface—a small reminder to be gentle and precise.

I didn’t catch any fish this round. I had to return early and realized I need better bait and hooks. Still, the experience mattered. Fishing isn’t only about the catch—it’s about discipline, patience, and noticing who—and what—keeps you company along the way.
