Pantomime Theatre - 2/ - the Gypsy Woman - Synopsis Below:
Tivoli, Copenhagen, September 2015

As can be heard throughout the video and seen at the end of it, the audience, I and my old Cam are under heavy rain during this performance of "The Gypsy Woman", a popular theater pantomime in Tivoli.

Synopsis:
Harlequin, in love with Columbine, appeals to and is helped by Venus, the goddess of love, who blesses his dagger with her magic wand. This helps him serenade Columbine and avoid the traps that are laid for him by the jealous Pierrot and her reticent father.
Pierrot, a dimwitted servant at Columbine's house, spies on the lovers, and reports constantly to Cassander, her father. His attempts are always avoided by the clever love-couple.
Comes a gypsy woman, whose predictions depend on how much she is paid. She quickly changes her palm-reading of Pierrot's future from bright to a tragic end by hanging, when he cannot pay. Meanwhile, Harlequin exchanges her baby with the food Pierrot has in his basket. Follow scenes of feeding the baby etc..
The always hungry Pierrot convinces Cassander to eat out at the neighbouring tavern. Harlequin bribes the cook and takes over the chefs uniform and toque/hat. Pierrot eats and drinks both his and Cassander's portions. Refusing to pay, they are thrown out and Cassander breaks a leg. The always drunken majordomo is called to help carry Cassander home. Follow scenes where Pierrot mocks Cassander, and fools the drunken majordomo to serve him food and drink.
Everything ends well as Venus unites Columbine and Harlequin, forcing her father Cassander and the jealous Pierrot to accept the union!



The Chinoise Theatre is from the 1870ies, and has seen the performances of many Danish and International dancers. H.M. Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, herself a ballet lover, is a frequent contributor to the costumes and decors of different pieces.

Pantomine Theatre began in Copenhagen in the very first years of the XIX C, when an Italian and an English comedians settled in the City.
