Описание к видео D-Day: Amphibious Assault On Iwo Jima (Silent)

Selected scenes from the D-Day amphibious assault on Iwo Jima's Green Beach, February 19, 1945, shot by none other than Sgt. William Genaust, who had no idea when he shot these scenes that he would later capture iconic footage of the raising of the US flag atop Mount Suribachi, which is seen here pummeled by air and Naval weaponry.

Footage includes troops approaching the shoreline on LVTs, artillery fire from Naval destroyers, air support, and infantry assaults on the beaches.

Coming up soon, extensive footage of combat on shore.
