What is continuity?
Continuity is the presence of a complete path for current flow. A closed switch that is operational, for example, has continuity.
A continuity test is a quick check to see if a circuit is open or closed. Only a closed, complete circuit (one that is switched ON) has continuity.
During a continuity test, a digital multimeter sends a small current through the circuit to measure resistance in the circuit.
A meter with a continuity beeper briefly sounds off when it detects a closed circuit. The level of resistance needed to trigger the beeper varies by meter.
Continuity testing determines:
• If a fuse is good or blown.
• If conductors are open or shorted.
• If switches are operating properly.
• If circuit paths are clear (accomplished by circuit or conductor tracing).
Continuity testing should be attempted only when voltage is NOT present in the circuit being tested.
Continuity testing safety
Always unplug the device or turn off the main circuit breaker before attempting a continuity test. Ensure that all capacitors are safely discharged.
Procedure of testing”
For Ring circuit and radial circuit
Define ring and radial
Radial Ckt” As we know that in radial ckt we can use only one cable for phase,one for neutral and one for earth..
1. first of all we will switchoff the main breaker of Db
2. then disconnect the all cables from the protective device
3. joint phase (which you want to check) with earth
4. select the meter knob on continuity
5. check with the meter at the end point if it is found beeper or show zero resistance it means it has good continuity also note the value R1 +R2
6. then check it with Neutral it must show infinity resistance and no beeper.
7. If you need R1+Rn then joint phase with neutral and check same like point no 6 also repeat for earth and it must not show any value across earth..
8. For light ckt the switch must be on
9. For metal condunt the cpc must be disconnected to get correct value

For Ring CKT
The test consist of two stage
1. measure the resistance of each conductor (R1,R2 and RN)
Note” The value of R1 and RN will be same because it has same length and same size while R2 value will be change because the size will be different
2. the measure R1+R2 and R1+RN and check there is any bridge or not
Note” cross connected R1 and R2 ,The value will be half of R1+R2 as we connected with them and now they are in parallel with eath other and you know that resisitance is decrease in paralle while increase in series.but if it is not showing half then it means there are bridge or wrong connection.
IF you have let suppose 4 socket then you must check on each point and maximum value must be record on the sheet
