THE BEST ULTRAS IN GERMANY? EXPERIENCING DYNAMO DRESDEN'S HARDCORE FANS IN THE 3.LIGA

We live in a world where Bayern Munich win the Bundesliga almost every season, Borussia Dortmund's infamous yellow wall has become a somewhat European holy grail for ground hoppers in the last decade and the globalisation of the game naturally means those teams that aren't at the top are fading into the abyss.

However, as i write this in February 2024, the Bundesliga has backed down in selling some of their stakes to private investors, and contrary to the above ^ the world of football is a much better place free from foreign investment looking to treat supporters as cash cows.

The lower depths of German football is ... and i dare to state ... the best fan culture in European and possibly world football?

This alone, as well as the fact that we love exploring former Eastern bloc football on this channel is enough to understand this weeks groundhop to Dynamo Dresden.

Dynamo Dresden are a myth, in the days of the GDR (German Democratic Republic) they were formed in 1953 by the East Germany Police as predecessors of SC Dresdner.

Dynamo went onto to win 8 East German league titles, and 7 East German Pokals.

The reunification of Germany saw them compete as one of the only former Eastern Bloc teams in the Bundesliga for 4 years between 1991-1995. Unfortunately, today, they now compete in the German 3rd division and are at present likely to get promoted back to the Bundesliga 2 soon.

But that doesn't matter to some extent ... Dynamo could drop down to the lowest division in German football and the fans will still turn up. In terms of ultras, and fans, Dynamo were the most supported club in the GDR and have continued to gain this support even today.

Some may say their fans are the most hardcore in the whole country, and after watching this vlog of how the Dresden faithful in action ... let me know if you agree !
