Jamaica’s bobsled team is officially heading to the Beijing Winter Olympics and will compete in three events for the first time in its history.

“It will be fire on ice as Team Jamaica secure their spot at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics,” the team tweeted.

“This will be the first time Jamaica has qualified in three Olympic bobsled events: four-man, two-man and women’s monobob.”

The Caribbean country first established a team in 1988 and became widely popular after the 1993 film ‘Cool Runnings’ which was loosely based on the underdogs competing in the winter games.

Jamaica has also made history with Benjamin Alexander becoming the first Jamaican skier to qualify for Olympics in alpine skiing.

The bobsled team have also launched a GoFundMe page to raise money to buy a new sled.

“Our athletes are among the best in the world. They are as committed, hardworking, resilient, and talented as any, but without elite sleds they can never reach their potential,” the page reads.

“We don't want to be drag racing in a Prius."
