In the 1960s, Lowndes County, Alabama was 80% Black, but the white elites fought to prevent the Black residents from voting. Inspired by the reporting from the Atlantic's Vann Newkirk, a new documentary -- "Lowndes County and The Road to Black Power" -- looks at how Black residents in the county fought to secure the right to vote.
