Pandit Rajan and Pandit Sajan Misra, the inimitable duo of Indian classical music, are one of the most sought after artists of the present time. They belong to an illustrious family of music maestros of Banaras. The brothers Rajan and Sajan Misra started taking lessons from the virtuoso of Banaras gharana Pandit Bade Ramdasji, and later trained with their father Pandit Hanuman Prasad Misra and uncle Pandit Gopal Misra, both doyens of the gharana. Banaras, one of the oldest cities in the world, is enriched with centuries of musical, spiritual and cultural heritage. The voices of Pandit Rajan and Pandit Sajan Misra carry the rich nuances of this inimitable ambience and their music attains great spiritual height.
At the second edition of Bengal Classical Musical Festival, held in Dhaka in 2013, Pandit Rajan and Pandit Sajan Misra presented Raag Bhatiyar in Vilambit Ektaal, followed by Drut in Teental. Their joint performance conveys the mood of the morning raga Bhatiyar lucidly. Their command over technique and creative improvisation makes the rendering a joy to listen to. Pt Samar Saha’s balanced tabla accompaniment adds much to the beauty of the performance.
