Jó napot kívánok! Hello! I’m Colleen Bell, the U.S. Ambassador to Hungary. Welcome to the Chief of Mission Residence here in Budapest. I’d like to tell you a little bit about the Art in Embassies program which since 1963 has worked with U.S. galleries, artists and the United States State Department office of Art in Embassies to curate beautiful collections of art that are exhibited in Embassies, Consulates, and Chief of Mission Residences around the world. Please join me on a tour of the collection being presented here in Budapest.

This piece, Untitled (Hong Kong V subset (a)) by Frank Gehry, is one of the works by contemporary American artists represented in the Budapest 2015 Art in Embassies collection.

Frank Gehry is one of the most celebrated architects in the world. He’s also a sculptor, and he’s known for his free flowing forms and use of utilitarian materials. It’s very special for me to have representation of Frank Gehry at our home here in Budapest, Hungary, because I know Frank from the art scene in Los Angeles where I lived and also from my affiliation with Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

I’ve enjoyed discussing this work by Frank Gehry and thank you for joining me on this tour of the Budapest 2015 Art in Embassies collection. I also thank the artist Frank Gehry and the Gagosian Gallery for participating in this exhibition and sharing this piece with Hungarian audiences.

For more information on all the artists in the exhibit, please visit our website and Facebook pages.
